Anorexia - A Different Approach
Welcome to anorexia say no.
This website offers real help and support to those suffering
from anorexia nervosa, bulimia, binge disorder, or any other type of
eating disorder.
First of all I must congratulate you on making your first step to recovery by finding this site.
I am very aware of the courage that first step has taken. I know that now that you have taken it, you won't look back.
I am a recovered anorexic. I recovered with the help of a fantastic
cognitive behavioral therapist and have created this website so that I
can pass on what I have learned to others who are suffering.
WHAT DOES RECOVERY FROM ANOREXIA REALLY MEAN?
The first crucial thing to know is that an eating disorder is not some strange psychiatric disorder which occurs out of the blue, or to which some people are prone, or destined to develop. That is a myth.
All eating disorders are brought about by a set of circumstances which cause depression and low self esteem.
These circumstances have lowered your self confidence, bringing you to feel that you have no control over anything.
Recovery involves changing both these circumstances, and the way in which we view them and ourselves in relation to them.
Personally, I prefer to think of recovery as discovery. The discovery
of the real self underneath the unhappiness.
Looking back, it seems as though the shift I needed to make was as simple as the flicking of a switch.
The truth is that it is only our false sense of our own limitations which prevents it from being as easy as that.
Throughout this website, you will find lots of different ways through which you can start to gain a sense of who you are, and the ways in which your life will immediately begin to improve now that you have taken the first step.
It will be possible for you to see that what it really boils down to is making a decision to begin to live your life for yourself, rather than for others.
We are all, to some extent, dependent on the approval and acceptance of others.
The deeper the level of depression we experience, the less we live true to ourselves, and the more we feel we need others to validate our right to exist.
That is what eating disorders are really all about - those who are suffering from them, as with those suffering from any type of depression, are literally sacrificing themselves to others, reducing and limiting themselves spiritually, emotionally and psychologically so that they are less likely to be rejected or spurned by others.
The greatest realization that needs to be made is that in limiting and shrinking ourselves we are depriving both ourselves and others of a vital force which is needed by the world as a whole.
Realizing that I did have the capacity to be in control, that
it was down to me to stop this suffering and that I could
actually do it, was my first step to recovery from anorexia.
Luckily I am here to help others to do the same.
I am currently writing an ebook which covers every aspect of the therapy which enabled me to get my life back.
If can guarantee you that if you follow all the steps in this guide, you will conquer your eating disorder.
Please check regularly - I'm about half way through, and am hoping it will be ready by August.
In the meantime, please do use the information here. There are lots of tips which will help, and please please trust that you can and will get over this, and go on to live a safe, happy and fulfilling life.
If you are severely depressed, please do go to your doctor. Anti depressants alone are not the answer, but they can certainly help in the short term.
I took them during when I was first having therapy, and they helped to calm me enough to be susceptible to the treatment.
Alternatively, if you think you can cope but need a boost, St John's Wort is a great natural anti depressant.
