These free self esteem worksheets are a wonderful way for mothers and daughters to work together on building self esteem. It isn't always easy to communicate with our children as they are growing up. The teenage years are full of changes and transitions and our children's need for independence can cause them to isolate themselves from their parents and other significant adults.Yet they still need us.
Whether you are a mum, or a female guardian, you are one of the most important people in your daughters life. These free self esteem worksheets are designed for you, as well as your daughter, to examine your beliefs about yourself and the various roles you play.
Children develop their beliefs and behaviour from the adults who they love and respect.
Research shows that there is a direct and distinct link between amother’s influence on her daughter’s ideas about health and bodyimage.
There is no doubt that if mothers could become more aware oftheir attitudes towards their own body and those of their daughters, they could help them withstand the powerful influence of a media and celebrity culture that undermines their sense of beauty and self worth.
Recent studies from the Girl Scout Research Institutesupport this finding. They also found that although there are other major factors that influence self-esteem—including peers, boyfriends, celebrities, and messages from the media, mothers arein a very influential position to shape how narrowly or widely a girl defines “beauty.”
These self-esteem worksheets are not about beauty awareness. (I'll be adding more worksheets soon that will cover this.)What these worksheets does is to encourage mothers and daughters to explore such topics as the family, goals and individual talents and aspirations.
This will help your daughter to focus on her own and your unique talents and beliefs, and will ground her in the sense that by becoming aware of these she will have a stronger idea of where she is headed and of where she would like to go.
Adolescent girls are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with their body image. 56% of girls aged 12-13 years old are unhappy with their appearance.One-third of all girls 14-17 years old think they are overweight, and 60% are trying to lose weight.
These self esteem worksheets, and the others that I'll be adding shortly, will help you to bond with your daughter in a way which will protect her from being vulnerable to the negative influences so paramount in the media.
These worksheets are designed to be printed. However, if you prefer, the activities can be copied and completed on paper.
