The Dangers of Fad Diets

Diets are unhealthy. Fad diets are dangerous.

They can and do cause eating disorders, as they perpetuate feelings of low self esteem. We may feel great once we've lost a few pounds, but we're then prone to believing that we'll feel even better if we lose more, and of course, the weight, having been lost quickly, is just as easily regained, lowering our self esteem again, almost forcing us to feel that we have to be on a permanent diet if we are to feel good about ourselves.name

Those feelings themselves constitute an eating disorder. We convince ourselves that our self-esteem is dependent mainly on how we look, our weight and our shape, rather than who we really are.

The fad diet industry, usually disguised as the health industry, is making a fortune from the misery of a lot of people.

If somebody needs to go on a diet, because being overweight is affecting their health, they need to see a doctor or a dietitian, not embark on a new fangled diet which will mess up their metabolism and probably their life.

It really is time for us all to start taking seriously the cons which we are all being sold every single day - that if we just go on this diet, buy this product, wear these clothes, that we'll be happy.

I'm so glad that I've found a way out of that trap, and that I'm free to pursue real happiness in real ways.
